#243: Aloha, Birthday Girl

We were supposed to go to Hawaii again this year.  But, things can change.  Try explaining to your 8 year old daughter that she won’t be spending her birthday in Maui after all.  Gulp.

Luckily, we spent our spring break skateboarding, flying helicopters and watching Psych.  Now, that’s spring break…

Premium Version: I don’t know, almost an hour, I guess

  1. Sorry about the trip. Last year we had to dig a sinkhole out of our backyard – Surprise (a nasty one)! That meant we had to cancel our trip to Disney. That was a fun discussion at our house – not. However, my youngest is Hudson’s age so a little easier than much younger. Still not great – but it was an important learning lesson for them that sometimes things do not always work out the way you want it to. Hardest thing to do as a parent, however, to let them down.

  2. I wear contacts with one reading lens and one distance and it works quite well. Now I will say it takes a good one to two weeks for your brain to deal with it so maybe you did not give it enough time. There are people who just cannot manage as well. I also just changed my regular glasses to progressive lenses which I have never had. Wow, now that was fairly hard to get used to. There was like a two second delay for my eyes to refocus whenever I turned my head. I’m still getting used to it, but I think i’ll like it eventually.

  3. David, I’m trying another pair that should work better. This new pair is also slightly skewed towards one eye for reading and one for distance, but they should also help my (can I spell this word?) astigmatism (no, I can’t. Not without looking it up). Gonna give them a shot this weekend and early next week.

You’ll get used to the progressive lenses, but it takes a while to get used to moving your chin up and down to rack focus. I was sea sick for the first two days…

  4. Let’s face it Dan, you were sick of those $25 hamburgers weren’t you? 🙂

I tried once to have contacts, but as I can’t even bear to touch my own eyeball it was a disaster – I freaked out when the eye doctor put some lenses in and nearly threw up. Seriously considering laser eye surgery, but then someone told me you have to be awake – while they put a scalpel near my eye or use a laser – no way! I guess it will have to be the really awkward glasses for some time yet.

Guitar coming along OK Dan – keep it up!

  5. Listened with my 9YO son yesterday on the way to Knott’s. He is into the same things that T is into. Agreed on the H’s telescope. One great night of craters and sharing the eyepieces then it sits. Save some dough and try garage sailing. It’s where they bought the scope.
