#47: Expector Gadget

Thursday, July 28th, 2005

Hudson co-hosts, and we talk about Inspector Gadget, Eco Station and babies not crying during the podcast.

Write to Hudson at hudson@danklass.com or check out his blog.

The super cool spy song at the end of the show (chosen by Hudson) was “Hero” by Apollo 13. Thanks for reminding me, Shannon.

#46: We’re Addicted to the Show, Virginia!

I need to get the tale of the New York Times off my chest.

Music: “Factual Fiction” by Chris Crase w/The Rails

ps: Apologies to my friends who do Tech Podcasts. I was a bit of an ass at the top of this show, feeling my oats and being jerky about my ink. That being said, entertainment is here. Sorry.

Correction or Blame Placement?

Saturday, July 23rd, 2005

Corrections: A Critic’s Notebook article in Weekend yesterday about podcasts referred incorrectly to Dan Klass, creator of “The Bitterest Pill.” While he has indeed called himself an addict, he said that the description was intended as a humorous reference likening himself to fans of his podcast who call themselves addicts, and that he is not really an addict.

Is it just me, or do they make it seem like it’s my fault that they printed that I’m an addict and that my show is about addiction? Did Jayson Blair teach them nothing?

Here are some of my new favorite comics

The Pill airs Wednesdays @ 8am on KYOU

Friday, July 22nd, 2005

Starting soon, The Bitterest Pill will air on Wednesday mornings at 8am on KYOU 1550 AM in San Francisco. Yeah, that’s drive time, baby!

That day’s show will then be rerun at 4pm and at midnight.

New York Times strikes again!

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

“The Bitterest Pill” is the podcast of Dan Klass, an intelligent, low-key (depressive?) actor and self-identified addict in Los Angeles; he opines about addiction and complains about his laptop and his health, as his baby cries in the background. Why is this endearing? It just is, like many forthright accounts of boomer loserdom. Mr. Klass also worries about podcasting going mainstream. “Do you really need to hear Dick and wacky Dale from KRAP in St. Louis?” he asked on a recent broadcast.

- The New York Times, July 22, 2005. From The Critic’s Notebook, “The Podcast as a New Podium” by Virginia Heffernan

Depressive? Yes.
Self-identified Addict? Not officially. Do they not get the joke? The Bitterest Pill? The Addict’s Lounge?
Baby cries in the background? Maybe once in 45 editions.

The New York Times has done me the honor of “spelling my name right” twice now. I can’t complain, although I will…

#45: Death Becomes Us

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

A night time podcast about death and death. Well, death, death, Lauren Sanchez, London bombings and Freddy Soto. I know, I know, I’m feeling a bit odd these days, and I need to talk. I hope this one isn’t a downer.

Thank you for supporting independant podcasts. And thank you to all who nominated the Pill for a Podcast Award.

This edition’s musical guest was Saintface with “That Word Is Love” from the upcoming album “Apartment Stories.”
