I’ve seen The King’s Speech, but not Black Swan and 127 Hours. They’re still downloading… I have to assume that before next year we will be over the whole “download” thing once and for all. Please. Twenty-four house is NOT long enough time for me to watch a nominated film. I need at least 36. At least.
The dishwasher stopped working. It is no longer shooting water on all the dishes inside. So, I could either pay $100 for a guy to show up and then whatever it costs (holy cow!) to fix it, or $200 for a “Service Contract,” where now the guy will show up and we’re covered for the first $500 of labor/repairs. Is this even legal? Sounds like I’m being black mailed.
The kids and I wanted to do something nice and take my wife out for dinner on her birthday. Turns out, if someone doesn’t want to do something, and you force them to do it, it’s not very nice at all.

I feel for you Dan re: the meal – we are pretty much home birds, and usually get more out of some kind of ‘carpet picnic’, light a few candles and Love Actually (I swear my wife would watch that movie every day!).
Not sure you have much cause for complaint for getting free DVD’s or downloads of in-cinema movies. But I completely agree that this 24 hours thing on Apple movie rentals is crazy and is bound to be the paranoid movie companies.
We have streaming movies here, I use LoveFilm who are the largest, and actually stream via the PS3 as well as renting DVD’s and blu rays – the same deal as Netflix. But for the last year Universal have denied them a licence to rent their movies so LoveFilm can’t rent or stream them. I think it is to do with how much LoveFilm pays them but, whatever the gap between that rate and what LoveFilm want to pay and presumably pay other studios, it must be costing Universal a fortune as they are missing out on a lot of DVD rental income – if they think I am going to buy their movies instead, forget it!
And you wonder why studios are all in financial difficulty!
P.S. From several shows ago you were talking about Hot Tub Time Machine. I got it free from the library (thank goodness) for my husband. He was not doing prep for a colonoscopy and said it still stunk.
I de-listed from my rental list based on Dan’s comments – thanks Dan!
