#254: I Ate My Guitar during Carmageddon

I’ve spent the last couple weeks driving around with the windows down, cranking up the ABBA.  Tallu is in another musical theater camp.  Yes, this year I had to make a mouse costume.  A mouse costume that can convert into a horse costume.  And the ears have to be grey.  GREY.  NOT black.  I wish I’d fully understood that before I made them black…

I got together with friends for dinner at a fancy Beverly Hills steakhouse the night of Carmageddon.  I was worried that we’d spend way too much on a couple steaks and Dave would miss his red eye.  In the end, Dave made it to the airport just fine and I ate some crow and feel much better for having done so.

  1. Received an email today, talking about some traffic issue at one of our offices in the UK – they used the words “Carmageddon XXXX style” Ahhhhhhhhhhh, please don’t let this become popular!

That restaurant is taking the pee on the prices – mind you, when I was in LA in 2002 I am sure someone told me some of the coffee places on Rodeo Drive charged $40 for coffee. Insane.

  2. Dan,
Before you buy an electric guitar, you’ve got to do what my husband did. Find a teacher who will become a great family friend. He needs to be single, and be a full time musician. The next thing you know, you’ll be drinking and brewing beer, playing hooky to go hiking, learning to like whiskey, and going out to concerts at night without the children.
Now, he should also be good looking and a bit of a flirt, which will charm your wife. And you may even learn some more chords- and you’ll have someone to go to the guitar store with to ogle the stradacasters (is that what you want to get?).

    Cheers, Samantha

  3. Dan I know how you feel about spending a lot on a meal. We just came back from a small family vacation. One night we went to a very nice restaurant. Now you know I am very frugal but after tip we spent like $150! When I came back I went to the grocery store with coupons and bought a weeks worth of groceries for $98. I just had to keep reminding myself that we are very frugal and save so that sometimes we can cut loose and have a nice dinner every once in a very rare while! At least you got a story and a good time with your friends. Just think about it this way – how often do you get together with friends? Yep – you deserve it.

  4. Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit.com, talks about the value of college education and the “dire need” for skilled labor in the U.S. Higher education fails to provide students “good value” for the money they and their families spend, more than half of U.S. adults said in a Pew Research Center survey. Ohanian speaks on Bloomberg Television’s “InBusiness With Margaret Brennan.

  5. Dan, Abba…seriously? Each to their own I guess, I can pass no judgement.
I hope the meal was worth it, certainly sounds it from what I can take from other comments.
