I was offered a great new business opportunity. Apparently, I have been selected as an ideal candidate to be a State Farm Insurance rep. Wow. Now, what was the qualifying factor that qualified me for the wonderful opportunity? Was it having a mail box perhaps?
I have taken up social drinking. Yes, after several decades of enjoying about one drink a year, I am currently up to about one every 2.5 days. We’ll see if my lack of self restraint makes this an impossible endeavor. I assume that when I start having a Guinness with breakfast, it’s time to reexamine. By the way, Guinness Lager is not Guinness, it’s lager, and stout drinkers shouldn’t be drinking lager…
My wife wanted the Butter Buddha and my wife got the Butter Buddha. Paul ended up with the lip sucking device. Not sure who ended up with Cher…

Ha ha! I worked for a State Farm agent once, for about six months. I was fully licensed to sell life, health and car/house. But it drove me nuts. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Dan you sound like me and the drinking. I was a repressed little Catholic girl who never got any freedom and went to college and got my drink on. I was the kid you talked about in college who every time you asked “What are you doing?” “Drinking” I stopped when I got married and had kids after finding out the reason I took to it so well was also familial. I became a member of the once or twice a year club too. (Margaritas, yum)However, in the last year I have started to socially lubricate again – responsibly of course. It does take the edge off, it does make it easier to converse at parties and it also makes me feel less like a stick in the mud at the party. It also teaches my children if they see me that there is such a thing as responsible drinking.
Dan,
Interesting post. I am not much of a drinker myself, but I find that a glass or two after a hard day’s work help in destressing. I am very conscious about what my body takes in so needless to say I am quite the late bloomer. Recently, I find that I enjoy going out with friends to socialize and a bit of drinking does help in relaxing the mood. One thing I will never ever take forgranted though, is never to drink and drive.
Imagine living in a drink obsessed country like the UK and not drinking much. I used to drink loads, then got pancreatitis and nearly died, lost a gallbladder as a result and so just can’t take it or be bothered now. But you and RZ and right about it loosening you up a little.
Have you ever considered some of the darker beers Dan? Now I know if you go to a large enough liquor store you can get English beer, beer I say, not lager (which is cats piss). I can recommend Theakstons Old Peculiar, and you may feel all peculiar after a few. Old Speccled Hen is another good one. Seen both of these myself in the States before.
Another thing I used to drink as a silly youth was Cider and black (alcoholic cider topped with blackcurrant or (dangerously) a poor mans black velvet (Cider and guiness). Think you put the cider in first so the guiness has a top still, but it may be the other way round. Have no more than one!!
Merry Christmas Dan! I have been up since 6 since my 13 yr old decided it would be GREAT to get up that early. Sigh. Hope that you are able to maintain the ebb and flow of presents this year so you can build the Christmas surprise. We were able to do that. Our Wii croaked and we told the kids tough. However, I found an awesome deal with Just Dance 3 so they got one. They were so excited they did not know what to do with themselves.
I am usually on the Christmas thing but not as much this yr. I found myself doing stuff even last night and my Christmas cards never made it out. However, one of mine is 18 so it was more important to spend time with them. Got to protect the fan base.
Thanks for your show which keeps me laughing and (in)sane when I am cleaning, shopping, walking the dog picking up poop, etc.
Would totally purchase and proudly drink from a Bitterest Pill mug – get on it!!
I agree and I was a repressed little Catholic girl who never got any freedom and went to college and got my drink on.

HAPPY NEW YEAR DAN!
Yes, happy (belated) Christmas and new year to you too RZ and to Dan and family. Hope to hear another show soon, but I know things go CRAZY at this time of year.
I dream of 6am by the way. My 7 year old daughter was SOOO excited that she awoke at 2.30am to ask if she could open presents, then at 3am, 3.30am, 4am, 4.30am, 5am and then we finally gave in at 5.30am! Guess who was Ms Grumpy pants then later that day!!
Talking of the Wii, once again, Wii Party and it’s minigames has been the runaway success this holiday.
Happy New Years Wayne!
My 13 year old woke us up at 6:00 and I asked her WHY?! Sleep in like a normal teen you goober.
We have been playing Wii Just Dance 3 for like at least 2 hours every night. Urgh – I am hurting! (However, personal best over 10,000 points and 5 stars on Apache. I also can rock some Katy Perry California Girls.) The 13 yr old kicked my bootie on Boogie Wonderland. I think it is because I actually try to do it right instead of just waving my arms around. I am so old I know how it is supposed to look and that is kind of a disadvantage.
This has been very helpful to many people. Thank you very much for sharing this to public. Very informative and helpful.
Dan,
Happy New Year! Celebrating the holidays was a good excuse to drink… a lot! 🙂 I celebrated with family and relatives while watching the fireworks display and had great fun socializing. I hope you had a great time too and had your fair share of the beer. Here’s to 2012. Cheers!
Hi! Thanks for the great information you have provided! You have touched on crucial points!
