#279: A Milk Crate Full of Nostalgia

What do you expect from a The Bitterest Pill podcast?  Hearts and flowers?  No.  How about more complaining about my life and romanticizing my incredibly lame music collection?  Yeah, that sounds more like it…

We cleaned out the garage last weekend, to make room for a rented foosball table.  Hudson is having some guys over for this 13th birthday, and since it rains every mid-March and we have a very small house, we thought we’d better make some room for the boys to hang out in OUTSIDE of the house.  We got rid of a lot of boxes, old tax papers and who-knows-whatelse.  What we couldn’t part with: records and CDs.  Now, sure, when we want to listen to our music collection, we just fire up Spotify, so there is NO REASON to clutter the garage with boxes and boxes and boxes of music on dead formats.   But, they are old friends we can’t part with.  Old friends we never see, and whom were replaced ages ago, but still.  Loyalty is loyalty…

  1. One – even if you take the dog out AND feed him him he must stalk you for food apparently, if my dog is any indication. I love my dog but after seven years and the thrill of having him is long over for the kids I am over taking him out all day while my son is at school, picking up poop, feeding and the constant nosing around for food. Not to mention the bathing and grooming since we have a Maltese. What did I get to do for my bday today – yep, bathe the dog. Why? Because here in the South we are under a yellow blanket of pollen that I do not want in my house and looks wonderful on a white dog, not.

Tell Melissa that as the kids get older she can kiss buying them larger sizes goodbye. They do not want clothes that do not fit. Also, like you said, there is no way you can anticipate growth patterns any more. One year they may not grow at all. Next 6 months you will go through three sizes. Deal. You know I love to save money but it is harder and harder once they hit middle school and high school.

  2. Hey Dan! You asked what the “kids” are calling records these days. My significant other is a DJ and still spins vinyls. So they are calling them vinyls. 🙂 On another note he also holds his vinyls in a milk crate. Milk crates are still also used in the college scene to shelve things. I used some when I was in undergrad you can buy them at places like target. I’m not sure if they are labeled as milk crates though. Also second life is still around, but it gave birth to role play games so now World of Warcraft is more popular. I think that’s all for now. And yeah! I’m almost completely caught up on your podcasts!
