#259: Digging Sinatra While Digging

The kids are back in school.  Yeah.  The good new is that I can finally get back to the old routine.  The bad news is I hate the old routine.

The putting down and leaving up of the toilet seat is the first battle of the sexes, the one which will eventually result in you peeing sitting down.  Gentlemen, hold your ground!

We met a very nice woman on the beach during a Back-to-School non-school get together.  She helped the kids dig and recommended some music.  It was a lovely day…

  1. Hey Dan, I once stopped a woman cold during a conversation about appropriate toilet seat placement. She demanded that all men should put the seat down when they leave any toilet. I responded that in fairness all women should put the seat up when they leave. She had no response.

  2. My wife has never made a comment to me about toilet seats in 10 years (OK, that time that I sat on it and busted it…). But you know what Dan, I have precious little “me” time, what with the micro management etc, and so the “fortress of solitude” is one of the last bastions of freedom I have, and I take the opportunity therefore to read a few pages of a book, or play a little iPad on a regular basis.

So, I CHOOSE to sit at home and not elsewhere. We won a war, I have a right!! There are not many spaces that can double up as a library and movie theatre (on a 9 inch screen).

The thing that drives me crazy is her leaving the lid up. I guess, unlike me, she is not perfect…:-)

  3. Okay guys, once and for all I am going to clear this up . . .

    One Woman’s Opinion

It is not because I want there to be no sign of my husband in the bathroom. It is not because I “secretly” hope to wear him down to start peeing sitting down. (See my above post.) It is not that I want to control him. It is not because I am afraid of a little splash down in the middle of the night. It is not that I claim ownership of the bathroom. The simple facts are:

    1. It looks nicer. Aesthetically it looks better when you enter the bathroom and both the seat and lid are down. Fair is fair – I still have to put the seat up.

    2. Toilets – even ones that are cleaned regularly – are gross. They harbor germs. Why would you want to keep that open all day?

    3. Kids drop crap in toilets – on purpose or on accident. Young kids and older kids – doesn’t matter. The tool that had this house before us had a medicine cabinet above the toilet. My daughter knocked her sample size deodorant in there and it got permanently wedged. Plumber and new toilet time. Fantastic.

Once again – just one woman’s opinion.
