#40: Forty always STINKS!

A long and strange one, in 2 parts…

PART ONE: Feeling strange about being #5 on PodcastAlley last month, but vote anyway: you choose the Ambassadors of Podcasting.

Lance Anderson (Verge of the Fringe) is my first live caller! We play voice mail from Brother-in-Law Mark, Brad from New Jersey, Ashley, and Mark from the Tartan Podcast. I tell Ashley a new poo-poo story.

PART TWO:FOX NEWS was here a week ago, and I play the entire mindless rant I did while they were taping their “B-roll.” I tell the strange coincidence of Jon Sebastian, the Pill and Coverville.

We finally (I think) finish up the story of the CSI promo shoot. This time we talk about director Rocky Morton (of Max Headroom fame) wanting me to cover the dead guys “bits.”

Let me know if you like the idea of the hi-rez “Best of…” feed.

  1. I LOVE the idea of a hi-res ‘best of’. I’d buy a CD of hi-res ‘best ofs’!
C’mon, Klass! get it together and give us what we waaaaaaant!

  2. Are we talking 80 minutes of Hi-Res Klass act, or are we talking about 700 MB of Dan’s show?

    Either would be good!

  3. who cares about Dawn and Drew? I can’t belive Curry is building his kingdom and the likes of that crap… no, i guess i can…

    Dan,
I love your stories keep telling them, (but i’m sick of the podcastalley worries)…
just do your stuff! OH, and THANKS for the heads up on Coverville…
I love that show! and the new 80’s music! Hope you have time to keep doing doing you pod cast!

  4. That was interesting having a guest in the “studio” while you were recording your B-roll. Perhaps you should invite one of your neighbors or parents that you like so much onto your show. You could do it while Hudson was playing with one of his school buddies while their parent was over dropping his friend off.

  5. I keep offering to host his old shows, because currently its not possible to get shows before #12 and Im worried that some of the old shows will disappear at some point. As far as the higher quality versions, I think it would be very cool, but 600MB’s is alot of bandwidth to deal with… better stick with a bittorrent solution.

As far as podcastalley, Im helping out with that site now and the voting stuff is being solved. We are putting together a structure that will make it MUCH hard to cheat, and shouldnt make it any harder to do legit votes. Also there are new user features which should make it easier to automate your monthly votes. So keep an eye out, and know its being worked on.

  6. I never said ANYTHING about 600MB!

The three ideas I’m rolling around are:

    1) Post the old shows. That would be easy, but not make me happy.

    2) Create a “Best of” feed, with 128kbps versions of my favorite stuff from the early shows. Would take some editing, but I’d be happy to do it after the book is finished. I might group the stories into categories, and create different “albums” with their own art work, liner notes, etc.: A parenting “album,” a celebrity sighting album, show biz album, etc.

    3) Create a “Best of” CD (or CDs) to make available thru the site. Would be the same amount of work, but there would be packaging, shipping, etc. I would have to charge, but would keep the price VERY low. Would be a great souvenir, gift, whatever and a great way to support the show.

Thanks for all the interest, gang!

Do we need a forum? Sometimes seems like…

ps: Thanks, Kim. You’re right on.

  7. If you put the CD on a Business card sized CD, it would be really cool. And then you can put the image of the “Bitterest Pill” on it. It would be a cool way to distribute your show. The major issue is working in cars, but you can always burn a copy if you actually wanted to listen to it.

  8. Dan,

I’ve been meaning to go back and listen to the old BPs because I can’t remember from the names which ones were my favorites. The ones I do remember liking a lot are:
BP #7 (the earliest one I have, what’s the deal with the missing early episodes anyway?), #18,#20,#31, the one where you talk about fathers and daughters (I think that might be #18), and anything with Hudson in it. But my personal favorite is the one where you mention me (Korean Jewish American from NJ/NY)!

Love your show. Good luck categorizing them. I don’t see how that’ll work because what’s really cool about your show is the little bit of yourself you reveal over time, like in #23 and the Up Chub Creek one.

Maybe just have a Best of box with the top 5 (like Father Roderick does for Catholic Insider) instead of a best of feed since non podcast people won’t find that either.

Good luck with the book and thanks for the podcasts!

  9. Just wanted to let you know that I am listening. My hubby got me hooked, and I’m still waiting for him to burn some cds for me. We love to listen to you in the car and yesterday our son asked to listen to “now my dad will make an annoucement” one and as we listened he’d repeat your line” blah blah blah” he’s been doing that lately and until that moment I had no clue where he picked it up! thanks for making me laugh!

  10. Yea!!! I’m on the Bitterest Pill… does this count toward my 15 minutes?

    Dude… ranking on BBC…

I haven’t caught up to Mr. Hunter’s Partan TodCast about the BBC TV License people yet. I’ve read horror stories about dealing with them and the trucks… But, their tv fees pay for BBC funding, so as annoying as having to pay the fees is, they get value for money. We don’t get to directly fund PBS here… and haven’t we all sat through enough of the beg-a-thons.
