  1. Girls in their underwear in gym class??? Oh my god, I would have died. And are you sure this wasn’t a quirk of the particular school that you went to? Maybe the headmaster was a little odd…

Another day of listening to tbp at my desk and cracking up. Did you ever hear of a guy named Jean Shepard that used to broadcast a radio show out of NYC on WOR in the 1970s? (He’s probably most well known for writing and narrating that xmas special, A Christmas Story, about the kid that wants a Red Rider bb gun for Christmas) You have a similar ethos, although your content of course is entirely different.

  2. Ah, language barriers. I have a nice backstory of amusing stories about that. The main one being rubber vs eraser. Learnt that one the hard way.

I started French when I was 8. Then I moved over to the States when I was 12 and a half, promptly forgot it all.

Baseball like game = Rounders, I think. I love Rounders. Also, when I was real little, like… 7? 8? If we forgot our gym outfits we just wore our underwear. Sometimes we’d wear the lost and found clothes. That was fun… Strappy girly undershirt = Vest, at least that’s what we called it.

I love American accents. As much as it pains me to admit, I totally dig George Bush’s accent. The British accent has only worked on one guy so far. I really need to start finding guys that dig the accent.

    Very funny episode as always.

  3. hi dan!
LOVE your show- you have me howling with laughter! I’m a new listener from the UK and wanted to say hello…hope you’re having a good day.

we did P.E in out underwear until we were about 7 or 8 (girls & boys)- then we wore ‘P.E kit’…but all changed in the same room until we were 11, which we girls were mortified about! (I’m sure you would have loved it…) We didn’t study languages (French & Spanish) until age 12 though- then we could drop them by 14, but I kept up Spanish…

    Hasta Luego

  4. Awesome show…one of your best yet. I like the “rambling-around” style of show you do from time to time.
Great, great stuff about being a kid.

  5. As a highschooler myself, I certainly remember in grade 3 and 4 getting changed for gym in the same room. We each had a half of the classroom, but there was no sort of barrier or anything. I too, have an English accent, (having lived there when I was younger) and it certainly affects the ways girls look at me, if you catch my drift. Anyway, that show was one of my all-time favourites. Nice rambling. I like it.

  6. Hey Dan,

Great show, I am a scotsman (another accent for you to try on the show!!) and I love your stories about England, always make me laugh. My first experience of your show was the Snickers Toupe one, after that I was hooked! I’m so glad you corrected the “Shanty” to “Shandy”, was going to email you but someone got to you first haha.

I certainly look forward to your next installment,
