I grew a beard this summer. Of course, all I had to do is say I grew a beard and now I have an audition to play an accountant in a commercial, and I really don’t think I should have a beard. Ugg. The photo above is of me as Johnny Siren in Hudson’s production of Max Quick: The Pocket and the Pendant. Those scars on my face (not the age wrinkles, but the scars) are painted on using ridgid collodion. Awesome stuff.
I don’t remember what I talk about in this edition of the podcast, other than my beard. I know I didn’t talk about facial hair for a half hour, so there must be more to it than that.

Hi Dan,
Great to hear from you again.
It’s always good to hear you, so … thanks for doing The Bitterest Pill for all this time.
It’s helped to still have the show, along with other things, during the past two years or so.
The sudden switch from stay-at-home-dad to dad-in-a-foreign-land hasn’t been easy. You’ve helped to make it less difficult (being something familiar, and helping to keep me connected to that period of my life when I too was a SAHD).
What you do is significant and important.
It doesn’t come with a lot of obvious accolades and awards.
However, you only have to look at your children to know where the rewards are.
At some point you are going to need something of your own, something to fulfill yourself, aside from doing the dad thing.
I hope that you find that sooner rather than later. In the meantime, take heart that you are of greater value than might be immediately obvious, trust me. Your influence will endure at least several lifetimes.
Man, your children are growing up fast, and time is flying by, again. You have a beautiful family that you can be proud of.
I wish you and yours continued blessings.
Bless bless! (as they say here in Iceland)
Paul
