#118: It Should Be $20/Ben Sander

Ben Sander

First we talk about Business Traveler #2, communication break downs, my interviewing skills, the truth about my dementia and the high price of Zyrtec this week.

Then I talk with Brini Maxwell creator Ben Sander, my guru of mid-century chic. Check out Ben’s new on-line retail spot, Felix Populi.

  1. Do women grow men-sized feet? Sure. For instance, by most accounts I’m a woman and I wear a men’s 8 1/2 EEEE. To give you an idea of scale, I’m also 5’4” tall. If it weren’t for classy, demanding drag queens, I would never in my life be able to buy shoes actually made for women, because the only women’s shoes made in that size are intended for men to wear.

  2. Dan,

You are complaining about not having money and you have someone mow your lawn???? They sell respiratory masks with rubberbands glued to the side for less than a buck. I liked the cartoon show.

  3. Dan,

The talk about the kids, the wife, the things she talks to you about that you don’t really care about….that was one of the funniest things I have heard since you tied the Xmas tree to the top of your car.

I feel EXACTLY the same way most of the time. Wife talking about work things, 3.5-year-old daughter either chasing the dog making it bark or running from the dog giggling (which all too often turns to crying 99% of the time), the 4-month old baby needing constant attention….and all want to do is watch some Battlestar Galactica, play some Fiesta Online, or record a show… None of it, until every female in my house is asleep, is ever possible. No wonder I’m always exhausted…it’s 11pm before I get any me time…

Keep up the great work man. Love the show.

  4. Long time listener…first time commenter….

Loved this episode. Obviously, Rob doesn’t get the point. It’s not necessarily about the money, it’s about how screwed up our health insurance system is. I’m with ya, man! It’s crazy! I’m sure we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg. Besides, I have better things to do with my time than mow my lawn. Give me a break!

As for your interview with Ben, I thought it was interesting. Not at all the boring interview you sold it as. I especially liked the part about the journey with no destination. The conversation waned a bit in the last 5 minutes, but otherwise I found it a good discussion. Don’t sell yourself short. I almost stopped the podcast before the interview after hear you tell us how it lacked “Dan”. I’m glad I didn’t. Keep up the good work! Good luck with the auditions.

  5. Dan, you should do what I do.

Twice or three times a year I head down to Tijuana and stock up on the prescription meds. Save about 80%. Even with the cost of a round trip train ticket down there, it’s worth it.

I guess you could drive down there too, that would probably cost a little bit more in gas and parking.

I am a brave boy for trusting my health to meds from Mejico? I guess I understand that concern, but I think it’s fine.

  6. Dan!

This episode was great… Sent the email from her phone…

Man I can identify BIG TIME with this:

“No one argued with me until 1986 and guess who it was?!?!?!” 😀

Keep up the good work, man!

  7. As always I enjoyed the show and I thought the interview with Ben was great. It flowed well, I got a laugh out of it, and I learnt something!

Don’t be so hard on yourself! Oh, sorry, that’s kind of the point of this show isn’t it? 🙂
